The Swiss Village, A Sneak Peak
June 17, 2010
The Swiss Village is a unique resort snuggled in the character town of Val David about half way between Montreal and Mont Tremblant. Have a look at these early concepts, and the various screen grabs of this project as it is integrated.

Form before function
In the above view, you see the basic inside template to the site as it sits in Adobe Photoshop. Guidelines are used to outline the column positions. Although this is the activities page and has its own unique content and layout, the header and headline zone are identical to all inside pages and are the focus of this discussion.

Keep it simple
The above screen shot shows the header without any css or javascript. Broken down, you have a couple of headers and a couple of lists consisting of various navigation. This no-frills header is a good example of how search engines, screen readers, mobile phones and accessibility devices see your content.

Sugar and spice…
CSS and Javascript are used to take the plain jane formatted text from the previous screen capture and create a masterpiece. CSS, or a ‘cascading stylesheet’, provides the context and means for one to describe each element of the HTML markup visually, while Javascript is provides the functionality so that objects on the page are interactive to clicks, hovers and more. Click here to visit the Swiss Chalet ‘work in progress’ where you can see a working example of the above header with rich visuals and behaviours.
